There is something about a day out at the horse races that draws my imagination straight to a rare but sunny day in London. Picture A-Line skirts, elegant fascinators and classy peeks of décolletage, all on the backdrop of a perfectly green lawn with boundless flows of the world’s finest champagnes. The super elite spending the afternoon socialising (empty air kisses included), all the while pretending to be in attendance for the sole purpose of watching the horse race.
As one of the originating cities of the popular sporting spectacle, it wouldn’t be an injustice to channel a London based “Royal Ascot” winning look to honour your horse race day invitation, especially since our very own Durban July ranks as one of the biggest race days on the continent.
When I spent my Saturday afternoon ogling over some top looks from this year’s “The Colour of Magic” themed Vodacom Durban July, I was pleasantly surprised to spot a few Lipsy London and Dune London accessorised looks. The fashion brands’ collaborations with some of South Africa’s style darlings made for many a whimsical Durban July ensemble.
I’ve put together three of my favourite London inspired #VDJuly outfits, which served as a charming representation of the famous words by Coco Chanel –
“A girl should be two things – Fabulous and Classy“
